Providencia Favela

The class spent a day touring the favela of Providencia with an organization called Catalytic Communities.  Providencia was the first favela in Rio Re Janeiro, Brazil.  Many of the families in this favela may be relocated because of a city  project to  bring tourist to the historic cathedral within the favela and to provide more views of the city from the favela.

A historic cathedral sits at the top of the favela.  Houses marked with the letters SMH will be relocated or evicted because of the project.
