MAM Rio

MAM Rio
Architect: Affonso Eduardo Reidy

Another excellent example of brutalism, this modern art museum consists of an exterior skeleton of concrete ribs that support the first floor and hang the second floor and roof.

The ground floor consists of shops, a cafe, a large covered public space, and the entry/reception desk with galleries on the 1st and 2nd floors (yes...that is how they are numbered down here).
Although not common for an art gallery, the architect decided to line the front and rear facades with windows.

This little number awaited us as we reached the top of the stairs. Made of solid lead, this sphere and adjacent 1/2" sheets were tied into, and hanging from, the building's structure (into the shear wall pictured here and through the ceiling on the other end to an overhead beam).
