Downtown La Paz

The San Francisco Cathedral in downtown La Paz is a unique combination of European Baroque and Incan architectural style.  Even the renowned putti of European cathedrals were redesigned with native Kechwa faces and the bodies of birds.

This is traditional Bolivian attire with the common top hat worn among the women.  Blankets were folded and then wrapped around the shoulders to carry anything from babies to food.

A main pedestrian bridge connects the San Francisco Square and mall to a
long pedestrian street full of restaurants and retail stores.

Downtown La Paz is located in a valley a couple thousand feet lower then el Alto; home to one of the highest international airports in the world.
